Dealing with the destructive nature of success
The new financial year has started with a bang and you have stood true to your goals. All your efforts in marketing and networking are now paying dividends.
You have written 20 loans in four weeks and you’re celebrating these incredible achievements. You – and you only – have made this work.
The momentum continues through winter. But now coming into spring and good weather, the situation starts to change. All those loans are still not closed off.
Your phone is ringing non-stop with demanding clients. You are chained to your desk and putting out fires day in, day out.
You started this journey on your own to be able to enjoy family and friends and have work/life balance but now it's starting to unravel. And so are you. Success can have its price and you’re finding it difficult to unplug. Your mind is racing with everything that needs to be completed and all the loans that are still out in the open.
It’s a great problem to have … but how do you manage and balance all the demands of life and business?
1. Put yourself first.
You have to be selfish to stay the course and deliver incredible customer service to your clients. You need to look after your own health and well-being through this incredibly busy time. Schedule regular time for yourself, whether it is for a run, a ride or a walk. These are times when creativity flows: marketing ideas, growth plans and better ways to serve your clients.
2. Critical Thinking Model E.S.I.P – Developed by Sharon Pearson
Environment - Structure – Implementation – People
You need some robust systems in place to deal with the rapid growth. Think about the Environment of your business. What sort of culture are you developing? Do you have a vision of where you are going and a mission statement on how you will get there?
Structure your business by setting benchmarks of performance. Start developing operation manuals that show the steps, policies and procedures. Create checklists and templates for fast/consistent implementation. What actions do you need to be taking to Implement your ideas and processes.
The decisions you make and conversations you will have. What sort of People are you hiring? Are they a cultural match for your business? How can you further develop leadership qualities in yourself and others?
3. Give yourself credit
We all achieve so much in life. We do more than we realize, yet we rarely give ourselves credit. Not to mention, we don’t accept praise or credit from others very well. There will always be new goals you want to achieve so remember it’s important to celebrate the wins along the way. Give yourself credit. You are doing what you set out to do. Well done.
You made this work through determination and perseverance, now its time to reconnect with your Why, your Purpose and your Vision.
Rise Up. Out the everyday and into life.
